Dress Code

DRESS CODE
The District=s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, assist in learning, and teach respect for self and authority. Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing and practice acceptable grooming at all times.
Slacks & Jeans:
# Must be appropriately sized, fitting at the waist and leg; not baggy or excessively tight
# May not be of stretch form fitting material
# Must be hemmed, free of holes revealing skin, splits, fraying, patches and ornamental stitching/trim
# Boys pants with belt loops, must be worn with a belt
Shirts & Blouses:
# Sleeveless shirts can not have spaghetti straps and must have appropriate coverage
# Boy=s shirts must be tucked in at all times.
# Shirts must be buttoned at least to the second button
# Openings of shirts/blouses without buttons must not extend beyond that of a buttoned shirt
# Must be appropriately sized in the shoulders, sleeves and length; not baggy or excessively tight
Shorts, Dresses, Skirts:
# Must extend below the tips of the fingers with the arms extended and held at the side of the body
Shoes:
# Must have a back; sandals without a back strap are not acceptable
Hair:
# Must be clean, neat and well groomed
# May not be of an unnatural color, example green or purple
# Hair grooming items for example rollers, combs, picks may not be worn in the hair
# Spiked hair or Mohawks are prohibited
# Afro cuts may be no longer than 3 inches on top measured from the hairline
# Boys= hair may not fall below the eyebrow in the front or extend over the top of an ordinary dress collar in the back
Coats & Jackets:
# Students may not wear trench coats or oversized coats or jackets.
Miscellaneous:
# Young men are not to wear earrings, fingernail polish or makeup; earrings may not be covered with a band-aid, tape, etc.
# Young ladies must wear appropriate foundation garments
# Chains (i.e., wallet, choker, pocket, etc.) are prohibited; other inappropriate accessories include animal collars, wrist spikes, etc.
# Clothing must not be extremely wild/decorative; inappropriate words, the advertisement or suggestion of tobacco products or alcoholic beverages is prohibited
# Tattoos must be covered at all times
# Body piercing is prohibited, example nose, tongue, lip, eyebrow etc.
# Double or triple rings (brass knuckles) are prohibited
# Any attire which identifies a group or gang is prohibited
# Sunglasses, caps and head wear (hats, visors, kerchiefs, bandanas) are prohibited, male and female
# Specifically prohibited are any garments or items which, in the principal=s judgment, may be reasonably expected to interfere with normal school operation
THE PRINCIPAL OR DESIGNEE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO RULE ON THE APPROPRIATENESS OF ANY ITEM OF CLOTHING AND OR ELEMENT OF GROOMING AT SCHOOL. STUDENTS WITH INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHING AND OR GROOMING WILL BE SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
